New Book - Love in MidAir

We had a lively conversation about Sarah's Key last evening at Amelie's, but the general consensus was 'eh.' Per Liz's request to read something with some sex in it, we've chosen Love in MidAir as the next book. It's by a local Charlotte author, Kim Wright, and some of the story takes place in Ballantyne. It was recommended by Sally Brewster of Park Road Books as a great summer read. You can buy it here or at Park Road Books.

Also, we decided to try meeting the second Wednesday of each month. Next month, that will be September 8th and we will meet at Dolce Vita in Noda. (It's also half off wine night, coincidence?)

Sarah's Key Buying Options

Hey guys,

Sarah's Key on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Sarahs-Key-Tatiana-Rosnay/dp/0312370849/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1273499929&sr=1-1) is $8.37. I can get it for $7.81, but when you add in taxes it will probably come out to be like 10 cents more than Amazon.

Just let me know who wants me to order it!

New Book & Girl w/ the Dragon Tattoo Meeting Recap

We had a great meeting on Saturday to discuss The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Thanks to everyone who attended for a lively discussion and some delicious sandwiches.

Amanda P. and Steph went to see the movie in Swedish on Sunday afternoon. It was looonnng but very good. It condensed the book down to the most interesting (and relevant) parts but also managed to stay pretty true to the original plot.

The actress who play Lisbeth, looking surly. She did surly well.

If you go, be prepared to sit through some really brutal scenes. The Swedes don't tastefully cut away like most films we see out of Hollywood. Also be ready to ignore the fact that all the characters sound like the Swedish chef from the Muppets.

We also chose the next book - Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay. Amanda P. has generously offered to check if she can get it through work at a cheaper price than Amazon.

Also, on a side note, the Charlotte chapter of the Women's National Book Association is having its monthly meeting tomorrow at Park Road Books. If you are free, drop by to hear about some great summer reading picks! Starts at 7 PM.

Happy reading!

Girl with the Dragon Tatoo - Let's set a meeting!

Alright, ladies, I have finished the book, and I hope you are all a good portion of the way through it. I found it tough going for awhile, but to anyone who is stuck or maybe not enjoying it very much, stick with it! Halfway through, I really thought I hated the book, but I came around by the end. I am planning on reading the others in the series now, too!

Will April 3oth or May 1st work for everyone? Email me or reply in the comments. Anyone else interested in hosting the meeting? Then we can have a bad-dog free conversation!

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

At our successful meeting discussing The Hunger Games, Jen picked our next book: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson.

This one is a mystery, so no book club questions yet since every one I looked at said it contained spoilers. Don't want to ruin the fun of reading! It's also part of a trilogy, so like The Hunger Games, if you like it, there's more to read.

A brief summary from Barnes & Noble: An engrossing debut thriller, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has been an international sensation, a bestseller in its native Sweden and throughout Europe. It features an unforgettable heroine: a brilliant 24-year-old punk-goth computer hacker and private investigator named Lisbeth Salander. Together with Mikael Blomkvist, a financial journalist on a most unusual assignment, she tracks a serial killer through a dangerous maze of business, political, and family secrets.

Amanda P. has already sent an email with options for getting the book. I believe it is also available for the Kindle. (PS - Amber, I will bring your charger on Wednesday!)

Also, for the next meeting, everyone come prepared with a specific topic you would like to discuss. We'll start the meeting with everyone getting a 2-3 minute 'spotlight' on their own special topic.

One last thing, I just modified the blog settings so we will all get an email for each new blog post. If you would prefer NOT to get those emails, just let me know.

Happy reading!!
